It’s Game On!
On April 6th, at the Frank B. Wise Business Center in Fort Washakie, Ivan Posey announced that he will be running as a Democrat for House District 33. Posey, an enrolled member of the Eastern Shoshone tribe, is the Tribal Education Director at Central Wyoming College.
Posey, a self-described conservative Democrat, brings a fresh perspective to state politics, contrasting with the incumbent Freedom Caucus representative Sarah Penn. This will be Posey's first foray into state politics, and his experience in tribal government will undoubtedly bring a unique and valuable perspective to the table.
Penn is an extreme MAGA candidate and a darling of the Wyoming Freedom Caucus best known for their extreme rhetoric and inability to work with others to move Wyoming forward. Freedom Caucus members almost always vote as a bloc and disregard their communities or input offered by constituents.
We expect an expensive race. When Penn was elected in 2022, she raised nearly 40,000 dollars, most of it from extremist individuals and organizations outside Fremont County. This tells us everything we need to know about who she represents!
This race will be all about turnout. The FCDP has already done one mailing into the district, encouraging the 585 recently purged voters in the district to re-register. We will soon launch a social media campaign and in-person efforts to encourage voter registration before the election. Support this effort with a donation.
It is early, and there may be other candidates interested in facing off against Penn. The FCDP will be there working to ensure Democrats are registered and prepared to support their favored Democratic candidate. The goal is to defeat Sarah Penn!
Congratulations to Ivan Posey on his candidacy. Thank you, Ivan, for stepping up!
